The CEO's Journal- Entry 18: A New Adventure

April 14, 2019

Overall I had a really great weekend. Today I had the privilege of not only watching the U14 Boys Club Provincial Championship, but I also got to work with some younger athletes at the ATR camp.

The provincial championship game was really intense and exciting. It reminded me why I love the game so much. No, I don’t really miss playing. But I do want to have a huge impact on basketball here. I want to help raise the level of basketball here and to help grow the province’s basketball community. You could say that I’m already doing that. I’m hosting the province’s first year-end all star game in May, I train a lot of players one on one and I actually helped to train the players on both U14 teams that ended up in the championship game. So I guess I should be happy with what I’ve done so far. But still, I want to do more. I have a real opportunity to help the next generation of players and I want to make the most of it.

Just when I thought that I was going to get some time to relax, I get hit with another hectic day. But as tired as I am, I don’t mind at all. Here’s how my day went:

I started my day by getting up nice and early and heading to the barber to get a MUCH needed haircut. From there I went to a meeting (can’t say with who), and then in the afternoon I got some of my usual desk work done. That evening I took a 5 minute nap (yay) and then headed to a photoshoot with a talented new photographer, Ryan Mac.

Also, I think I forgot to tell you guys earlier but my friend Eman and I decided that we’re going to run a mini 2-day basketball training camp this week for grade 9 and 10 high school girls. The camp starts tomorrow and I’m both nervous and excited for it. Nervous because I don’t know for sure how many will show up. Excited because I’m really looking forward to helping these young ladies get better.

Wish me luck!

The camp today went AMAZING! I spent most of the day worrying about if anyone would show up but thankfully, 5 eager athletes showed up and worked their butts off. The session went extremely well and I’m positive each and every one of them got better. At the end of the session I could just feel how excited they are for tomorrow. A handful more players will also be attending tomorrow so I’m really looking forward to that session too. As I’ve said countless times, I’m really passionate about helping as many players as possible.

I’m finally getting into the habit of waking up early! This morning I woke up at 7:30am (half an hour before my alarm!). Considering that there was a time where I would consistently go to sleep at 4am, I’m pretty proud that I’ve been able to get into a more normal sleeping habit. This morning I had a meeting with Lucas. His company, SkySoar Marketing Inc, will be handling a portion of our marketing and I’m really excited for us to get started. From my meeting with Lucas I also learned a few things that need to be tweaked with the Elevate website. It’ll take awhile to implement the changes but trust me the website is going to me SO much better! After that meeting, I had another one with Samantha. Up until now I’ve been doing all of the organizing for the ELEVATE All Star Weekend. But from this point forward, Samantha is going to be helping me. It’s definitely a relief to have someone there to help take the load off of me a little bit. Samantha in fact, is the one who really encouraged me to make the official announcement on our Instagram story today. I don’t know why I’ve put it off until now but I’m glad I finally made the post. Thanks Samantha! Tonight was also day 2 of my mini training camp with the high school girls. This time we had a bigger group and thanks to Eman (my assistant coach), things went just as smoothly as the first time. I had a lot of fun working with the girls and I hope to work with them all again in the near future. Overall today was a really fun and productive day!

Today I started working on upgrading the website. So far it’s going pretty well and it’s actually easier than I initially thought it was going to be. The only downside is that I also realized that it’s actually going to take awhile to get everything adjusted the way I want. But it’s okay because as they say; Greatness takes time.

Considering it was a holiday, today was a pretty relaxing day and I didn’t spend nearly as much time on building the business as I usually do. But I DID get to read (I ALWAYS make time for learning). I worked on the website some more and also worked on my big picture plans for the brand. Overall I didn’t do a whole lot, but the things that I did do were pretty important. So overall, I think it was a pretty okay day.

My girlfriend is encouraging me to take a couple of days off for the holidays so there won't be any journal entries on those days. Apparently taking a break is healthy? (lol). Anyways, this was a really great week overall and I'm really excited for the next one!

Happy Easter!
